Compact X band Synthetic Aperture Radar on 100kg Small Satellite

چکیده

We are developing a small synthetic aperture radar (SAR) that is compatible with 100kg class satellite. A constellation of such small SAR satellites is promising for shot revisit time of earth observations. The SAR antenna is a deployable honeycomb panel antenna with slot array, that can be stowed compactly. RF instruments are on a satellite structure and feed through waveguides. RF signal feeds through a choke flange at a hinge. The current status of the hardware development will be presented.

Rain retrieval over land from X-band spaceborne synthetic aperture radar: a model study

Numerous studies conducted as part of the Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM) program have demonstrated the benefits of space-borne precipitation measurements. The NASA Global Precipitation Mission (GPM) is an outgrowth of TRMM that will provide improved precipitation measurements and extend those measurements to higher latitudes. GPM satellite will carry a microwave imager coupled wit...

The TerraSAR-X Payload Ground Segment: Pre-Launch Status and Performance

TerraSAR-X, the first national German radar satellite, is scheduled for launch in 2006. It carries an X-band highresolution synthetic aperture radar instrument featuring imaging modes like StripMap, ScanSAR and, particularly, SpotLight in a variety of different polarization modes [1] [2]. Thus the TerraSAR-X mission will provide both the scientific [3] and commercial [4] user community with a v...

Pasture Monitoring Using SAR with COSMO-SkyMed, ENVISAT ASAR, and ALOS PALSAR in Otway, Australia

Because of all-weather working ability, sensitivity to biomass and moisture, and high spatial resolution, Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite images can perfectly complement optical images for pasture monitoring. This paper aims to examine the potential of the integration of COnstellation of small Satellites for the Mediterranean basin Observasion (COSMO-SkyMed), Environmental Satellite Ad...

Potential of high-resolution detection and retrieval of precipitation fields from X-band spaceborne synthetic aperture radar over land

X-band Synthetic Aperture Radars (X-SARs), able to image the Earth’s surface at metric resolution, may provide a unique opportunity to measure rainfall over land with spatial resolution of about few hundred meters, due to the atmospheric moving-target degradation effects. This capability has become very appealing due to the recent launch of several X-SAR satellites, even though several remote s...

Building Damage Estimation by Integration of Seismic Intensity Information and Satellite L-band SAR Imagery

For a quick and stable estimation of earthquake damaged buildings worldwide, using Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR) loaded on the Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) satellite, a model combining the usage of satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery and Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA)-scale seismic intensity is proposed. In order to expand the existing C-...
